Headline: Alleged Gilgo Beach Serial Killer’s Wife Files for Divorce Amidst Controversial Investigation
In a surprising turn of events, the wife of alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann has filed for divorce, according to a recent court filing. The divorce, labeled as “uncontested,” has been identified as Asa Ellerup v. Rex Heuermann. This development comes after Heuermann’s recent arrest on July 13 in connection with three of the ten victims linked to the Gilgo Beach murders.
During Heuermann’s trial, his defense attorney, Michael Brown, referred to his client as a “loving husband,” emphasizing that he had been married to Ellerup for over 25 years. However, Ellerup’s attorney has stated that she has no comment on the matter at this time.
Heuermann, a father of two, is charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. The bodies of these victims were discovered covered in burlap along Ocean Parkway in December 2010. Shockingly, all the victims were sex workers aged between 22 and 27.
Currently, Heuermann is also considered the “prime suspect” in the death of another victim, Maureen Brainard-Barnes. Mitochondrial DNA testing revealed that female hairs found on the victims matched Heuermann’s wife with a shocking 99% match.
Despite the mounting evidence against him, Heuermann pleaded not guilty to the charges and is being represented by defense attorney Michael Brown. As part of the investigation, authorities have been conducting interviews with incarcerated sex workers to gather additional information about Heuermann’s movements and methods.

In fact, a green Chevrolet Avalanche linked to Heuermann was seized in South Carolina, while a black Avalanche had previously been seized at his New York home.
Recently, the green Avalanche has become a critical piece of evidence after a witness reported seeing it at one of the victim’s homes prior to her disappearance. This revelation has further cemented its association with the Gilgo Beach murders.
