Larian Studios’ hit game Baldur’s Gate 3 has surpassed 10 million units in sales, with estimates suggesting the number could be as high as 15 million. This news comes straight from Michael Douse, the studio’s head of publishing, who revealed the impressive figures in a recent interview.
During the Games Developer Conference (GDC) 2024, Larian CEO Swen Vincke shared that Baldur’s Gate 3 had nearly doubled the sales of their previous successful title, Divinity: Original Sin 2, which had sold 7.5 million units. Despite this success, Vincke announced that there will be no DLC or sequel for Baldur’s Gate 3, as the studio is now directing its attention towards developing two new, ambitious games.
Vincke expressed his excitement for the future, revealing that he has a dream RPG in mind that he hopes to bring to life with advancements in technology. Larian had previously planned features such as NPC schedules, day/night cycles, and weather systems impacting gameplay, but these ideas had not come to fruition in their games. However, with technology evolving rapidly, Vincke believes that these features could become a reality in the near future.
Fans of Larian Studios can look forward to the studio’s upcoming projects as they continue to push boundaries and innovate in the world of RPG gaming. Stay tuned for more updates on Larian’s exciting new ventures on ‘The Puck Drop’.
