Severe Storms and Flash Flooding Cause Damage and Delays Across U.S.
Severe storms and flash flooding have continued to wreak havoc in parts of the U.S. after an intense line of storms caused damage and fatalities earlier this week. The Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia was even delayed due to the severe weather.
Seven million people in multiple states are currently under flood watches, with 1 to 2 inches of rain possible. Severe storms are also possible for 28 million people across South Carolina to central Florida and the Ohio Valley to the Appalachians.
The storms earlier this week triggered over 150 damaging wind reports and even caused an EF-2 tornado in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Sadly, one weather-related death was reported in Mississippi, with multiple homes damaged or destroyed.
In New Orleans, streets turned into rivers due to intense rain, causing significant damage throughout the city. Flash flood emergencies have been declared in multiple areas, leaving thousands of people without power.
As if that wasn’t enough, rounds of heavy rain and strong winds are expected to continue in the Great Lakes, interior northeast, and along the I-95 corridor from D.C. to Boston.
The impact of these severe storms and flash flooding is a stark reminder of the power of Mother Nature and the importance of being prepared for unpredictable weather events. Stay safe and stay informed as these weather challenges continue to affect communities across the country.
