Visitors to Sons of Liberty Alehouse in San Leandro may have been exposed to the measles virus after a person with measles dined at the restaurant on March 9 between 4:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The individual in question did not contract measles from the restaurant and was unaware of their infection at the time.
In response to the potential exposure, Sons of Liberty Alehouse has reassured the public that all employees are healthy and that they are prioritizing the health and safety of their staff and guests. Health officials are urging anyone who may have been at the restaurant on March 9, especially vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, infants 11 months or younger, unvaccinated individuals, and those with weak immune systems, to contact their healthcare providers and the public health department.
The measles virus is highly contagious and spreads through sneezing, coughing, or direct contact with secretions. Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should contact a medical facility immediately and mention the possible exposure to the virus.
Despite being declared eradicated in the US in 2000, reported cases of measles have been on the rise in recent years. The CDC reported 35 measles cases in 15 states by early March, with the California Department of Public Health aware of four reported cases statewide.
This news serves as a reminder of the importance of staying up to date on vaccinations and taking necessary precautions to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in public spaces. Stay informed and prioritize your health and the health of those around you.
