Former CFO of Donald Trump’s company, Allen Weisselberg, has pleaded guilty to lying under oath in Trump’s New York civil fraud case. The decision comes as part of a plea deal that will see Weisselberg serve five months in jail, but he is not required to testify at Trump’s upcoming hush-money criminal trial.
Weisselberg admitted to providing false testimony in a lawsuit brought against Trump by New York Attorney General Letitia James. Despite this admission, Trump’s lawyers argue that Weisselberg did nothing wrong and was unfairly targeted.
The judge overseeing the civil fraud case determined that Trump, Weisselberg, and others had schemed to deceive banks, insurers, and others. Weisselberg’s plea deal does not require him to cooperate or testify at the hush-money trial, and ensures he will not face prosecution for other crimes related to his employment at the Trump Organization.
During the civil fraud case, the judge found Weisselberg’s testimony to be intentionally evasive. As the hush-money trial involving Trump is set to begin shortly, both prosecutors and Trump’s lawyers have not indicated they will call Weisselberg as a witness.
The developments surrounding Weisselberg’s guilty plea and the ongoing legal battles involving Trump continue to captivate the public as they await further revelations in these high-profile cases.
