Multiple Freeways in Phoenix Area to Experience Closures for Improvement Projects
Phoenix, AZ – The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that several freeways in the Phoenix area will be closed or restricted this weekend due to ongoing improvement projects. Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes and allow for extra travel time.
The closures will impact various sections of U.S. 60, Interstate 17, Interstate 10, and Loop 303. ADOT is urging drivers to slow down, merge safely, and be prepared for traffic delays in construction zones.
One of the major closures will take place on the westbound US 60 between Loop 101 and I-10 where pavement work will be conducted. This stretch will be closed from 9pm on Friday, July 21 to 5am on Monday, July 24.
In addition, southbound I-17 will experience closures between Pinnacle Peak Road and Loop 101 for a pavement improvement project. The closure will occur from 9pm on Friday, July 21 to 5am on Monday, July 24.
Scheduled tunnel maintenance will necessitate the closure of eastbound I-10 between I-17 and SR 51 from 9pm on Friday, July 21 to 9am on Saturday, July 22. Similarly, westbound I-10 will be closed between I-17 and 7th Avenue for tunnel maintenance; this closure will be in effect from 9pm on Saturday, July 22 to 9am on Sunday, July 23.
Pavement maintenance will also cause closures on Loop 303 in Goodyear. Southbound Loop 303 will be closed between Indian School Road and I-10 from 8pm on Friday, July 21 to 9pm on Saturday, July 22. Northbound Loop 303 will experience closures between I-10 and Indian School Road from 9pm on Saturday, July 22 to 5am on Monday, July 24.
Additionally, eastbound I-10 will be narrowed to three lanes between 32nd Street and Broadway Road for bridge work. The closure will take place from 10pm on Friday, July 21 to 6am on Sunday, July 23 and from 8pm on Sunday, July 23 to 4am on Monday, July 24.
To help drivers navigate around the closures, ADOT has provided additional closures and alternative routes for each section. Travelers can also check travel and roadway conditions at az511.gov.
As always, ADOT advises drivers to exercise caution, follow posted speed limits and signage, and be aware of construction workers and equipment in these areas.
