Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film Oppenheimer was the big winner at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards, taking home a total of seven awards, including Best Film and Best Director. Emma Stone also had a big night, winning the award for Leading Actress for her role in Poor Things.
The Holdovers, another standout film of the year, won in two categories, including Supporting Actress. Unfortunately, popular films like Killers of the Flower Moon and Maestro were shut out at the BAFTAs.
The full list of winners included categories such as Sound, Original Score, and Documentary. Oppenheimer led in nominations with 13, closely followed by Poor Things with 11.
Considered a precursor to the Oscars, the BAFTA awards are a strong indicator of what may come at the Academy Awards later this year. In addition to Best Film and Leading Actress, other winners included Leading Actor, Director, and more.
Film fans and critics alike are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Academy Awards to see if Oppenheimer can continue its winning streak or if another film will take home the top honors. Stay tuned to The Puck Drop for all the latest awards season news and updates.
