Microsoft has made a strategic move in the world of artificial intelligence by hiring former DeepMind co-founder, Mustafa Suleyman, to lead its consumer AI products and research. Suleyman will now report directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, where he will oversee all consumer AI products including Copilot, Bing, and Edge.
This new hire is part of Microsoft’s efforts to strengthen its AI strategy outside of its partnership with OpenAI. Suleyman, who previously ran his own startup, Inflection AI, will now be focusing on selling AI software to businesses, while also helping Microsoft build AI models.
As part of this transition, Inflection AI will no longer be running its AI chatbot, Pi, and will instead concentrate on AI model building with the support of Microsoft. Suleyman’s move from DeepMind to Microsoft comes after facing criticism for his management style at Google, where employees had raised concerns about his behavior.
In response to these criticisms, Suleyman has apologized for any impact his behavior may have caused and has expressed regret for his actions. His hiring by Microsoft indicates the company’s dedication to advancing in the AI field and competing with major players like Google.
With Suleyman now at the helm of Microsoft’s consumer AI products and research, the tech giant is poised to make significant strides in the AI industry and solidify its position as a key player in the field. Stay tuned for further developments as Suleyman leads Microsoft into the future of AI technology.
