Seven children were injured in a shooting outside a mall in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday night, leaving the community shaken. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers were on the scene after hearing gunshots and found six people with gunshot wounds. The victims, all between the ages of 12 and 17, were rushed to the hospital, with a seventh victim later arriving on their own.
One of the victims is currently in critical condition, while the others are stable. Deputy chief of operations for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, Tanya Terry, spoke out about the shooting, calling it “deeply concerning” and urging an end to conflict resolution with firearms.
Police have observed a troubling pattern of young people gathering in the downtown area after the mall closes at 7 p.m. They are urging parents to be aware of their children’s whereabouts to prevent such tragic incidents from happening. Despite their efforts, no arrests have been made as an aggravated assault investigation is underway.
This shooting marks the third in three weekends in Indianapolis, with previous incidents resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. However, there has been a breakthrough in one of the cases, as police have arrested and charged a suspect after identifying them through surveillance footage.
The community is reeling from this latest act of violence, and authorities are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice. As the investigation continues, residents are urged to come forward with any information that may help solve this senseless crime.
