Sacramento Chef Named Finalist for Best Chef in California
Sacramento, CA – Buu “Billy” Ngo, the founder of Kru restaurant in Sacramento, has been named a finalist for best chef in California by the James Beard Foundation. Ngo is among five finalists in his category, competing against chefs from Oakland, Calistoga, Los Angeles, and San Diego.
This honor comes after Ngo was previously named a semifinalist in January, making him the only chef representing Sacramento in the finals. Ngo’s journey to culinary success is truly inspiring, having been born in a refugee camp in Hong Kong before opening Kru in 2005 after attending culinary school in San Francisco.
In addition to Kru, Ngo is also the founder of Fish Face Poke Bar, Healthy Hounds Kitchen, and Kodaiko Ramen and Bar. His dedication and passion for the culinary arts have clearly paid off, as being recognized by the James Beard Foundation is considered a significant achievement in the food industry.
The James Beard Awards ceremony, where the winners will be announced, is set to take place in June in Chicago. The ceremony will be livestreamed on Eater for those unable to attend in person.
