Swedish game company Embracer Group has announced plans to split into three separate games and entertainment companies, each with its own unique focus and equity story. The three companies will be Asmodee Group, Coffee Stain & Friends, and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends, all of which will be publicly listed.
This decision comes after Embracer Group’s CEO, Lars Wingefors, stated that the move will allow the companies to better focus on their core strategies and deliver unforgettable gaming experiences for players around the world. The company has been restructuring since losing out on a $2 billion partnership deal last year.
Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends will concentrate on AAA game development and publishing, maintaining ownership of popular IPs such as Dead Island, Killing Floor, and The Lord of the Rings. Asmodee Group will be dedicated to tabletop game publishing and distribution, offering games like Ticket to Ride and CATAN, along with licensed games based on franchises like The Lord of the Rings and Marvel. Coffee Stain & Friends will focus on indie, mid-market, and free-to-play games, with properties like Goat Simulator and Valheim under its umbrella.
The spinoff and share listings for the companies are expected to take place within the next 12 months for Asmodee Group and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends, and in 2025 for Coffee Stain & Friends. This move marks a new chapter for Embracer Group and its subsidiaries, allowing them to pursue their individual goals and visions in the gaming industry.
