Buffalo Bills’ Running Back Damien Harris Suffers Neck Injury in Sunday Night Game
Buffalo Bills running back Damien Harris incurred a neck injury during Sunday night’s game, drawing concern from teammates, opponents, and fans alike. The incident occurred after a hard hit by New York Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke, forcing Harris to be taken off the field in an ambulance.
Although conscious and able to move his arms and head, Harris was unable to get up after the tackle. Medical personnel swiftly intervened, securing him to a stretcher and rushing him into the waiting ambulance. The game was delayed by approximately five minutes as Harris received necessary medical attention.
Following the incident, the Bills confirmed that Harris had indeed injured his neck and would not be able to return to the game. However, Bills coach Sean McDermott provided some hope amidst the concern, revealing that Harris was “heading in a good direction” and had regained “full movement” of his extremities.
Harris, a 26-year-old backup running back, is currently in his fifth season of professional football. He previously played for the New England Patriots before joining the Bills this season. His absence will undoubtedly be felt by the team as they navigate the remainder of the game without his contributions.
In a touching tribute, the ambulance that transported Harris off the field sported the number “3” on its back doors in honor of teammate Damar Hamlin. Hamlin himself underwent a near-death experience on the field in January 2021, going into cardiac arrest after a routine tackle. Although he has since returned to the team, Hamlin has seen limited playing time this season.
The Puck Drop will continue to provide updates on Harris’ condition as they become available. Fans and players alike hope for his swift recovery and return to the game.
