Australia will pass a total of A$7 billion in infrastructure funding for the 2032 Olympic Games to be held in Brisbane. Queensland in particular will inject A$2.7 billion (€1.7 billion) into the redevelopment of the Cricket Ground, also nicknamed “The Gabba”, which will increase its capacity to 50,000 seats.
Brisbane city center will also be equipped with a new 17,000-seat indoor stadium, worth A$2.5 billion (€1.6 billion), funded by the federal government. The €1.87 billion (€1.2 billion) granted by the state and federal government will be allocated to 16 new or modernized sites.
Queensland Premier Anastasia Palaszczuk said 80% of the gaming infrastructure was already in place. “It is clear that we must do our part, not only to stage the best games, but also to leave a lasting legacy for Queensland and everyone who visits this great state.”said Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
This is the third time after Melbourne (1956) and Sydney (2000) that Australia has hosted the Olympic Games.
