The Detroit Lions kicked off their preseason campaign with an impressive victory against the New York Giants, winning the game 21-16. Despite missing several key starters, the Lions’ defense stepped up down the stretch to seal the victory.

Wide receiver Jameson Williams had an up-and-down game but managed to make an impressive one-handed catch for a two-point conversion. Sadly, the offensive line struggled without their usual starters, and backup tackle Matt Nelson had a difficult day.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Lions’ defensive line shone brightly. Julian Okwara recorded three sacks, while Romeo Okwara contributed with one sack of his own. The linebackers, including Derrick Barnes, Malcolm Rodriguez, and Jack Campbell, played exceptionally well, effectively slowing down the Giants’ running game.
Meanwhile, the secondary experienced both highs and lows. Will Harris and rookie Starling Thomas made strong cases for a spot on the final roster with their performances.
Special teams also played a significant role in the victory, particularly with a standout performance from wide receiver Maurice Alexander. Alexander returned a punt for a touchdown, injecting momentum into the game. Punter Jack Fox also impressed with an average of 51 yards per attempt.
