In his mind, the kingdom was responsible for the woes of the Tunisian regime. During the interview, Debon stressed that the crisis engulfing Tunisia has intensified since President Qais Said welcomed Polisario leader Brahim Khali. “Since then, Tunisia has been targeted by a conspiracy and Algeria stands by it”, he declared, thus resuming the old habit of Algerian leaders to resort to conspiracy theories to explain political failures.
At the instigation of his Tunisian neighbors, Abdelmadjid Debon made himself President Said’s lawyer. But at one point, he was elected president of Tunisia and insisted that he was not involved in a coup that came close to ridicule. Debon forgot that the military caste imposed itself on the Algerian people following the boycott of the election by the majority of Algerians.
Also, it is obvious that the Algerian president is going to help his Tunisian friend as the forces of Algiers and Tunis are aligned against Morocco and its territorial integrity. Taking advantage of Tunisia’s dire economic crisis, which is close to bankruptcy, the Algerian regime has multiplied financial aid to the Polisario in exchange for Tunisian support. On August 26, 2022, President Guise agreed to do so by reserving Brahim Khali the reception befitting a head of state at the Africa-Japan Summit.
