Usher Named Entertainer of the Year at 55th NAACP Awards
At the 55th annual NAACP Awards, held recently, singer Usher was named Entertainer of the Year. The talented artist spoke about his successful career which has spanned three decades, and highlighted some of his recent achievements including a residency in Las Vegas, his marriage, a new album, and a Super Bowl halftime performance.
Usher beat out tough competition including Colman Domingo, Fantasia Barrino, Halle Bailey, and Keke Palmer for the prestigious award. In addition to being recognized for his musical talents, Usher also received the President’s Award for his public service achievements through his New Look Foundation.
The awards ceremony was hosted by Queen Latifah and aired live on BET. Among the other winners of the night, ‘The Color Purple’ took home the prize for best motion picture, while Fantasia Barrino won best actress in a motion picture for her role in the same film. New Edition was inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame, and Damson Idris won best actor in a drama television series for his role in ‘Snowfall’.
Additionally, Taraji P. Henson and Colman Domingo were honored with best supporting roles in ‘The Color Purple’, with Domingo also winning best actor in a motion picture for ‘Rustin’. The 55th NAACP Awards showcased the incredible talent and achievements of black artists across various entertainment fields.
