Remedy Entertainment Acquires Full Rights to Control Series from 505 Games
Finnish game developer Remedy Entertainment has made a significant move in the gaming industry by acquiring full rights to its popular Control series from publisher 505 Games for €17 million. This acquisition includes rights for publishing, distribution, and marketing for the entire Control franchise, including the original 2019 game, the upcoming Control 2 and multiplayer spin-off codenamed Condor, as well as all future titles in the series.
Under the terms of the deal, Remedy’s publishing agreement with 505 Games for Control 2 and Condor will end immediately, with 505 continuing as publisher until December 31st. The €17 million acquisition price is the same amount that 505 Games paid for the development of Control 2 and Condor. The purchase price will be paid in three cash installments over the next year.
This move by Remedy is reminiscent of a similar acquisition the company made in 2019 when they obtained the rights to the Alan Wake series from Microsoft. Control 2 and Condor were announced in November 2022, with Control 2 still in the proof-of-concept stage while Condor is advancing into the production readiness stage.
Fans of the Control series can expect exciting developments as Remedy takes full control of the franchise and moves forward with the upcoming titles. Stay tuned for more updates on The Puck Drop.
