Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end Travis Kelce has stepped up to help the victims of the tragic shooting that occurred at the team’s Super Bowl victory parade on Feb. 14. The shooting left one woman dead and 22 others injured, including two young girls in the Reyes family.
Kelce, who founded the organization Eighty-Seven & Running in 2015 to support underserved youth, donated two $50,000 contributions to a GoFundMe for the Reyes family. He expressed his heartbreak over the event that marred what should have been a joyous celebration for the team and its fans.
The Reyes family provided an update on their daughters, aged 8 and 10, who sustained leg injuries and underwent surgery for gunshot wounds. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife also visited the girls to show their support during this difficult time.
In addition to Kelce’s contributions, his girlfriend Taylor Swift also made a generous donation of $100,000 to the family of another victim of the shooting. Swift, who had cheered on Kelce at the 2024 Super Bowl game, wanted to do her part to help those affected by the senseless violence.
Two juveniles have been charged in connection with the shooting, and further charges are expected as the investigation continues. Despite the tragedy that struck the Chiefs’ parade, the outpouring of support from Kelce, Swift, and others in the community serves as a reminder of the resilience and compassion of the Kansas City community.
