Market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) reported a decline of 7.6% in PC shipments, with a total of 68.2 million units shipped. Gartner, another leading research firm, calculated a 9% decline with 64.3 million units shipped. Canalys, also a prominent industry analyst, noted a 7% dip in shipments, totaling 65.6 million units.
Despite the overall decline, industry analysts remain optimistic as they believe the long-running slump in the PC market may finally be coming to an end. With the holiday shopping season approaching in the final quarter of the year, better days could be ahead for PC manufacturers.
While most companies struggled, one brand managed to buck the trend. HP, one of the leading PC manufacturers, was the only company to experience growth during the period. IDC and Gartner both reported a significant increase of 6.4%, while Canalys reported a slight growth of 6.5%. This positive performance reflects HP’s ability to adapt to changing market demands and enhance their product offerings.
Looking ahead, analysts predict that the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI)-capable PCs will accelerate beginning in 2025. They estimate that approximately 60% of all PCs shipped in 2027 will be equipped with AI capabilities. This projection highlights the growing importance of AI technology in various industries and the strong consumer demand for AI-powered devices.
